The FIA are likely to introduce a new regulation banning the infamous party mode prior to the Belgian Grand Prix. It is hoped that the dominance of Mercedes will be broken ensuring a more competitive qualifying. However, Jan Lammers is yet to see if this will have the desired effect.

"With that party mode, it's actually quite simple. Whether it's a good or a bad idea, we don't know until we've experienced it for the first time. Then we'll see exactly who apparently benefited from it or not," Lammers said in the Formula 1 podcast on NPO Radio 1.

"Maybe Russell will suffer the most from that, which is not the intention at all, because you shoot a bit with hail and you don't know exactly who is going to hit you, I think."

Drivers benefit from engine modes in different ways

George Russell is one of the drivers who has stood out positively in qualifying this year. He could benefit from the party mode of Mercedes. According to Lammers, this engine mode doesn't have the same result for every driver.

"You can put it on party mode, but you still need a driver who can get that out. One uses it optimally and with the other it makes very little difference."
