Different engine modes will be banned from the Belgian Grand Prix and therefore it is expected that there will be less overtaking opportunities during the races. Romain Grosjean has come up with an idea for this, as he wants to reintroduce the KERS system.

Abolishment of party mode

From the Belgian Grand Prix onwards, party mode will be banned on cars in Formula 1. Sometimes these higher engine modes will also be used when overtaking during the race. By abolishing these, some drivers, such as Valtteri Bottas, think that there will be less overtaking during the races.

Return of KERS?

Grosjean suggests that bringing back KERS can counteract this. From 2009 to 2013 the kinetic energy recovery system was on the cars in Formula 1. The drivers could use this extra energy strategically during the race or qualifying.

"You had 100 percent battery for one lap and could use it wherever you wanted - to attack or defend. It was pretty cool to be able to use your energy whenever you wanted. As a driver, you can decide how to defend or attack. That's pretty cool", says the Haas driver to Formel1.de.
