Honda: "There were no major power unit issues"

Honda looked back on the first two free practice sessions of the Spanish Grand Prix with a good feeling. The engine supplier didn't have to deal with any problems for their power units, although the Japanese manufacturer had to change gear due to the very hot temperatures in Spain.

"The first day of the Spanish Grand Prix weekend has seen us work in conditions that are very different to when we were here for winter testing, as the track and air temperatures are so much higher," Tanabe told the Honda website. According to the top guy it had everything to do with the warm weather conditions and the high temperature around the track

Max Verstappen managed to take third place twice with his RB16, while the highest-ranking Alpha Tauri was Pierre Gasly's with a tenth place in the afternoon session. However, Honda mainly looked at the speed in the long runs. "Today, both our teams seemed happy with their long-run pace and there were no major PU issues."

Honda is going to analyze data

For Honda, it will be important to keep a close eye on the cooling of the power source. "The heat is due to continue for the next two days so now we are working on analysing our data to optimise our settings for Saturday and Sunday," concluded Tanabe
