McLaren has stated that they do not agree with the punishment that the stewards have handed out to Racing Point. The RP20 and its brake ducts have been declared illegal, but the team of Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris is actually not yet satisfied. Team boss Andreas Seidl denies that the relationship with Mercedes has been affected by this.

As we know Racing Point and Mercedes pulled together in the protest to prove that they did nothing wrong. From 2021 McLaren will be driving Mercedes engines, so it is quite conceivable that the German world champion will not be so happy that a future customer team will want to make their lives miserable for them.

According to McLaren, however, this is completely out of the question. "We have a great relationship with Toto (Wolff), with Mercedes and with the guys in Brixworth (engine department Mercedes)", Seidl is quoted by Motorsport-Total.com"There's absolutely no bad blood between us and Mercedes." According to the German medium, the German chief wants to emphasize that this case is about Racing Point and not against Mercedes.

However, the role of Mercedes is also questioned, because according to some teams Mercedes is also wrong if the Racing Point is found to be illegal. Chances are that Mercedes will get into trouble as well. But they don't fear that, Wolff recently made it clear.

McLaren withdraws anyway

McLaren signed a letter of intent to appeal, but eventually dropped the appeal. Ferrari and Renault will now be the only two teams trying to convince the stewards of their right.
