Christijan Albers is not satisfied with how things are going at the Red Bull Racing drivers academy. According to Albers, Red Bull has been at a standstill for a number of years and has been holding on to the older generation for too long, while the intention is precisely to give young talents the chance in Formula 1 as soon as possible.

"He (Alexander Albon) is just not good enough. We actually knew that at the beginning of the season. The same goes for Gasly", Albers starts to tell in the podcast of De Telegraaf. The former Formula 1 driver sees that Verstappen is at a lonely altitude at the Austrian race stable. "With all due respect, Pierre Gasly and Albon are still not of that level. Red Bull actually only has one good driver."

We need new drivers at AlphaTauri

The 41-year-old Dutchman thinks that Helmut Marko and his consorts have a strange policy. Lately there hasn't really been any good junior drivers in Milton Keynes or Faenza.  "I find that unbelievable. You set up a junior team to pick out talent from the underlying classes and give it a chance. How long have those other guys been driving at AlphaTauri? When was the last time new talents came in and got a chance to profile themselves?"

Albers thinks there's got to be a little more risk. "This is just going on safe, but the team wasn't built for that," he's convinced. "The team was created to create drivers who will go to a top team like Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz. They have been standing still for three to four years now. And when they get a spot, they'll bring back an old driver", the former driver refers to bringing back the Albon that was sent away earlier.
