Alexander Albon was found guilty by the FIA management of the early failure of Kevin Magnussen in the British Grand Prix. Robert Doornbos does not agree with that lecture and states that Magnussen himself was responsible for that.

"He made a mistake by jumping over that chichane", Doornbos analyzes the crash of the Haas F1 driver. In his column for Ziggo Sport the analyst states that he believes the early dropout is indeed the fault of Magnussen himself. "You get very unbalanced when you hit such a kerb. Albon was behind it and aligned perfectly to capture that momentum. If you make a mistake like that, you have to realize that there's someone on the inside of you in an opening round like that."

According to the former Formula 1 driver, the Danish driver should have been more responsive to the situation. "To send in with the idea that you're the only one on the track...", said Doornbos, who then saw a time penalty going towards the Red Bull driver. "Albon was lucky to get through, but he was unlucky to get five seconds from the stewards."

Doornbos disagree with FIA stewards

The stewards were of the opinion that Albon withdrew from the fight and therefore caused a touché. "He went off his gas for a moment when Kevin kept sending in. There's room for two men to go through that turn, but you've got to leave room. Magnussen didn't do that and that's why I don't agree with the penalty," he concluded.
