Lewis Hamilton seems to be preparing for a seventh world title after his victory in the British Grand Prix. The Briton himself is quite upset that the competition hasn't come any closer to make it exciting.

Hamilton misses battle with Verstappen

"If I'm honest, deep down I'm obviously a racer pur sang. I grew up go-karting and I always loved that wheel-to-wheel racing. The championship as it is now is not what I had hoped for. I'd like it a lot more if I could fight with Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc, because that's what keeps me going,'' says Hamilton after the race against Sky Sports.

It doesn't mean Hamilton will slow down all of a sudden, but a fight against the new generation is a chance to show what he can still do. ''I still give everything in every lap, but a duel in qualifying with Max and Charles is not in it at the moment. I do hope that this is closer together in the future," said Hamilton, who knows who it is to solve that problem.

Other rules in Formula 1

''The rules are the same for everyone and you can't blame my team for doing their job so well. We need to look at the people who run the sport and see how this can be improved in the future. As far as the rules are concerned, I see some nice improvements and the car Ross Brawn has shown us should bring us all closer together.''

However, those new cars won't be on the grid until 2022. Until then, the drivers will still be racing on the track in their current cars, which will be difficult to overtake. ''Hopefully we won't be as slow as Formula 2, but we'll be able to race more like we used to in karting'', concludes Hamilton.
