Update - Cause hulkenberg's problem known

Nico Hulkenberg would make his comeback in Formula 1 on Sunday afternoon, but it didn't come true for the German. He replaced Sergio Perez this weekend, but Racing Point's car stopped before the lights went out. Reportedly the British race team had motor problems.

"We tried everything, but there was a problem with the engine," says Hulkenberg to Sky Sports. "We don't know exactly what the problem is yet, but we couldn't start the car."

So it hasn't turned out to be the Sunday that Lance Stroll's temporarily new team mate had hoped for: "Of course it's a disappointment for me, and for the team. We'll see how things go next weekend should it come to that for me," he refers to the issue of when Perez, who tested positive for the coronavirus, will be able to return to the paddock.

By now it is known that Hülkenberg was unable to start the race due to a broken bolt in the Mercedes engine, this was confirmed by Racing Point tonight. Because of the broken part, the car could not start.

"It looks like a bolt sheared within the clutch housing and that bolt got caught and therefore wouldn’t allow the internal combustion engine to turn over. So where the bolt had fell off it got jammed and therefore we couldn’t turn the engine over," said Racing Point team boss Otmar Szafnauer to RaceFans.net and others.
