After the two Grands Prix at Silverstone in the next week and a half Formula 1 will travel to Spain for the third Grand Prix in the triple header. In Spain, however, there has been a significant increase in corona infections, which is a cause for concern. Formula 1 will continue to monitor the situation closely, because the sport will not take any risks. This also means that the situation in Spain for Formula 1 is on the edge in terms of whether the Grand Prix can continue.

F1 considers cancelling at high peaks

The BBC reports that the Formula 1 and FIA want to continue the race for the time being, but the condition is that the situation must not deteriorate further. Should the peaks in infections continue to increase, it will be considered whether organizing a race is safe or not.

So the coming days and weeks are crucial for the Spanish Grand Prix. If the infections continue to increase it is likely that Formula 1 will decide to skip the circuit. Whether there is an alternative to replace the Spanish Grand Prix is not known at the moment.

That the situation is threatening is shown by information from the government. Today the government has tightened the travel advice for Spain, specifically for Barcelona and the region around it. The government advises to only travel there if it is strictly necessary. Tourism is not recommended.
