Alessandro Zanardi was transferred to a clinic last week for further recovery, but shortly after that he was brought back to the hospital in all seriousness. There he underwent a fourth operation last weekend and the hospital has now shared an update on this. Zanardi is in stable condition, but it is still very serious.

Zanardi was taken out of artificial coma last week and the news towards the end of the week painted a positive picture. Zanardi would be conscious from time to time and his son indicated that it was no longer life-threatening. Shortly thereafter, the former driver's situation worsened and he was transferred to the hospital, resulting in surgery.

The message from the hospital is as follows: "Regarding the clinical conditions of Alex Zanardi, the San Raffaele Hospital communicates that the day after the transfer to the Neurosurgical Intensive Therapy, directed by Professor Luigi Beretta, the patient underwent a delicate neurosurgical procedure performed by Professor Pietro Mortini, director of the Operative Unit of Neurosurgery, for the treatment of some late complications due to primary head injury."

The operation was successful, as shown by clinical and radiological tests that were done on Zanardi. As a result of this operation, the Italian is currently in intensive care and his condition is stable.
