Masi warns of complacency: "Must not make any blunders now!"

With three race weekends in a row on two different circuits, Formula 1 has completed the first phase of the separate season. According to Michael Masi, the corona measures that have been taken are a success, but shouldn't let the attention slacken.

While the coronavirus is still a huge problem worldwide, Formula 1 has chosen to start the season. This only involves strict measures, such as avoiding contact outside the 'bubbles' of the various teams.

So far the measures seem to be a great success, much to the delight of race director Michael Masi. "I think that as a sport and as an industry we can be very proud of what we have achieved in the first three events," Masi told Motorsport-Total.com.

No blunders before Silverstone

The successor to Charlie Whiting was one of the key players at the FIA in developing the measures. "Given the time we had to make a plan to go back to racing, including the organisation of the pitlane, journalists and junior categories, it's fantastic. An educational experience for all of us."

"There were a few small adjustments we made along the way, but overall, as a process and as a structure, I think we've come a long way. I'm proud of what we've achieved. But we can't relax now," warns Masi.

Indeed, despite all the measures taken, there were already two cases of corona tested in the paddock. "We must be aware that COVID-19 is still there, all over the world. We can't make blunders on our way to Silverstone now and think we're untouchable. My biggest fear is that people will become complacent. We have to stick to the process we have developed," concludes the race director.
