With zero points, Williams driver George Russell is the bottom of the Formula 1 league, but that doesn't stop Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff from keeping his full confidence in the 22-year-old Briton. Russell is still regarded as the future of the top team.

Mercedes' training talent will stay with Williams at least until 2021, the team where he didn't score a single point last season either. Russell is a product of Mercedes, which stole him from Williams to make flying hours. Toto Wolff keeps a close eye on his development. "Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton are our drivers and loyalty is very important to us. But we're always looking to the future. George is certainly part of our long-term plans, but not yet in 2021. We are very happy that he will get the chance at Williams," Wolff said to Motorsport.com.

Satisfied with drivers

So for the time being there's no place for Russell at the world champion anyway. "We are very happy with the drivers we have. Valtteri and Lewis perform well, they get along well and that's important for the dynamics within the team". Hamilton is approaching the end of his career at the age of 35. The Brit hunts for his seventh world title this season, which would put him on an equal footing with record holder Michael Schumacher.
