There are more and more indications that Formula 1 will return to Imola this year, as part of a new triple header. No date for the race has yet been confirmed, but there is increasing evidence of a return of the pinnacle of motorsport in the Italian city.

That's what La Gazzetta dello Sport says. In all probability a new triple header is planned in Portimao, Hockenheim and Imola. FIA race director Michael Masi will travel to the city of San Marino this Wednesday to inspect the circuit, called Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari. Masi will not be in Mugello until Tuesday. That race is scheduled for September the 13th. Two weeks later the last confirmed race of the season is scheduled, the Russian Grand Prix. Earlier it was announced that Formula 1 is looking for new venues.

The return to Imola would be the first Formula 1 race in the city since 2006. The San Marino Grand Prix was won that year by Michael Schumacher. Fernando Alonso finished second at the time.
