Max Verstappen hopes that during the next two Grands Prix at Silverstone the problems of last weekend will be solved. The start of the weekend in Budapest was quite disappointing, but the Red Bull Racing driver is confident that this will not happen again in two weeks time.

"Yeah, I think it will be very hard, of course, to beat them (Mercedes) but I think it’s important for us now to understand where it went wrong and then, of course, correct it and try to learn from it and try to get it back on track", says Verstappen in the press conference after achieving his second place in the Grand Prix of Hungary.

Red Bull seems to be getting closer to solution

The Milton Keynes based race stable brought quite a few updates to the Hungaroring, but these turned out not to work. Possibly that will come. "And as soon, of course, as you head into the right direction, then of course very quickly you can put a good amount of parts on the car – but first we need to really understand where the main critical problem is in the car", he explains.

After the free practice sessions on Friday, Red Bull has its hands in its hair, but that's different now. The team of Verstappen now seems to be getting closer to a solution. "We’re getting there, yep!", the 22 year old Dutchman says.

Verstappen had to think back to last year

At the end of the race Valtteri Bottas was approaching fairly quickly on new tyres. It reminded Verstappen of the 2019 edition of the Hungarian GP. Then Lewis Hamilton was able to make up for eleven seconds on new tyres in ten laps and grabbed the victory. " I was a bit like last year… I was just trying to focus on my own pace. I can’t suddenly go half a second faster so I was just trying to manage the tyres," said Verstappen, who wasn't too happy with the many people who stayed behind. "Especially when you are on older tyres that’s not very nice so yeah, the last three laps were quite tricky."
