Max Verstappen will be starting from the front row tomorrow, but Alexander Albon was unable to match the Dutchman. The British-Thai driver is confident third-place would have been possible around the Red Bull Ring.

Lando Norris picked up a three-place grid penalty in practice meaning Albon will start the Grand Prix from sixth place instead of P7. Still, the young driver hoped for more. “The session was okay, but I had some difficulties with stability. In Q1, everyone changed positions a lot, so you just had to put down your lap. In Q2, I could only finish my lap at the end," said Albon in the video meeting attended by GPblog.com.

“In Q3 it went well initially with the setup changes. In turn four, I made a mistake, and things went wrong there. It's a shame because we were on our way to a good lap. P3 would certainly have been there if I hadn't made that mistake. I had braked a little later, but there was a river in turn four, and that locked my tires," the Red Bull Racing driver continues.

Not bothered by the Vettel rumours

Torrential rain was present during the build-up to qualifying, but Albon was able to tackle the conditions. “We weren't bothered by aquaplaning on the straight. Some places were dangerous, but the bends themselves went well. The weather was great for racing," he continued.

Last week, the British Thai also had to deal with the rumours about the possible arrival of Sebastian Vettel. All that talk just didn't affect Albon. "You just have to perform yourself. Talking behind your back has no influence on that, and I have no influence on external things. So those rumours had no extra influence on me," concludes the driver.
