During the first free practice of the Styrian Grand Prix, the teams take the opportunity to use other drivers. After Robert Kubica, Jack Aitken now announces that he will be in action as well.

Testing in Austria

Now that the Formula 1 teams are in action for the second time on the Red Bull Ring, there is much less to do during the free practice sessions. Of course, the teams will still make plenty of meters, but they are a lot less relevant now that an entire weekend has already gone by before this race. So it's an ideal opportunity to give your reserve drivers a chance.

Alfa Romeo thought so too. The Italian race stables put in test driver Kubica during the first free practice and Williams follows that example. They use new test driver Aitken. The young Brit is already present in Austria, as he is also in action on that circuit for Formula 2.

From Renault to Williams

Aitken has made the switch to Williams this season, where he played for the Renault team in recent seasons. There he saw no future, where he is closer to a Formula 1 seat with Williams.

Aitken's performance has to improve in F2, during the first weekend he qualified as 14th despite his experience and finished in the two races P15 and P8, with which he only managed to score one point in the first weekend as champion candidate.
