Verstappen admires Alonso: "It's a huge fighter''

Fernando Alonso will almost certainly return to Formula 1 in 2021. It is said that Renault will be presenting Alonso as a new driver on Wednesday, and Max Verstappen will like that.

Max Verstappen made his debut in Formula 1 in 2015 and has therefore been able to race Alonso for four seasons. Unfortunately for Verstappen he has not been able to race against Alonso in an equal car, because the McLaren with the Honda engine never came close to Red Bull Racing and Toro Rosso.

''I admire how he always manages to get much more out of a losing car by a good start or a great first lap. He's a fighter though and I think it's a very tough challenge as a teammate. The most important thing is that you get the best out of yourself and he can'', says Verstappen to Speedweek.com.

The fact that Alonso causes a lot of damage to teams doesn't bother Verstappen. ''He was always very nice and fun to talk to me. Unfortunately I have never really been able to duel with him. He is still one of my favourites, if only because of his fighting mentality'', concludes the driver of Red Bull.
