Recent years have shown that the Red Bull Ring is not the strongest circuit for Mercedes. In 2018 both drivers dropped out and in 2019 the German team clearly suffered from the heat in Spielberg. Also this year heat is predicted during the Austrian Grand Prix. Helmut Marko hopes that it will be as warm as possible during the race.

"Max is the only one in the top 10 on the medium band. If the temperature continues to rise like this, it could be a huge factor in the race," Red Bull Racing's advisor told ORF. However, Mercedes sees it get as cool as possible on Sunday, as the car performs less in warm conditions. "Toto Wolff said it would be 28 degrees. We'll order 30 for the race", jokes Marko about the temperature during the race.

He's in control

Wolff couldn't resist responding with a joke. "Helmut says he wants to make it a few degrees warmer here, he's in control here." Whether it's really going to be thirty degrees during the race remains to be seen. Clearly, given the results from 2018 and 2019, Wolff would like to keep the temperature as low as possible.

If the weather becomes as warm as it will be in 2019, Verstappen will once again have a considerable lead. Earlier it has already been shown that the Red Bull is much better at cooling down the engine, which allows them to demand more performance from the engine during the race. Mercedes, on the other hand, had difficulty in cooling the car, which prevented them from racing at full speed. Verstappen and Red Bull will hope that the same problems return today for the reigning world champions.
