Wolff won't set a deadline for Hamilton: "Things work differently in our team".

While many teams have already signed up their drivers for next season, at Mercedes no driver has yet committed for 2021. Toto Wolff expects this to change soon, but will not impose any deadlines.

Even before the start of the 2020 season, the 2021 silly season shad already begun. Many drivers have already extended their contracts or switched to another team, although they first have to drive a whole season for their current team.

At Mercedes everything is still open for 2021, but according to team boss Toto Wolff there is no hurry. "Everyone involved wants us to continue with Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas. When the time is right we will make an announcement", says Wolff in conversation with Motorsport-Total.com in Austria.

No pressure for the drivers

However, the team boss will not give any indication to when the announcement will come. "I don't do that, because I don't want to answer questions every race weekend as to why there hasn't been a signature yet", the Austrian explains.

Moreover, the team boss will not pressure his drivers to push a contract through. "We have confidence in our drivers. Of course you can say: in Formula 1 it doesn't work that way, but in our team it works differently. I think we will be able to take the next step soon", Wolff says hopefully.
