The Formula 1 teams will be completely separated from each other next week at the Red Bull Ring in so-called 'social bubbles'. This measure is required by the organisation and the FIA to prevent the possible spread of the COVID-19 virus. However, Ferrari goes one step further.

The Italian team has also set up its own 'bubbles' internally. This means, for example, that the group of mechanics working on Sebastian Vettel's car has as little contact as possible with the group of mechanics at Charles Leclerc. The same applies to the team leader who oversees the entire operation. Sports director Laurent Mekies explains it to Motorsport-Total.com.

"It's not in the regulations, so you're not forced to do these bubbles. You are forced to work as a team in a bubble, but the fact that we have a sub-bubble is our responsibility. And we do it to be as resilient as possible in case we have a positive case."

"So depending on how exactly we design these bubbles, the contact between our people and thus our operation will be limited". In crucial situations, such as an engine change, this could cause problems and Mekies admits that the internal bubbles can be removed in that case.
