Next week the F1 season will finally start. After the first race was cancelled at the last minute in Australia, we had to wait several months for more clarity on the F1 calendar in 2020. Now it has been decided that, with a lot of measures, Grands Prix can still be held. Cyril Abiteboul, team boss of Renault, sees that it will be quite a challenge to comply with these measures.

"The biggest risk to the teams are multiple factors. It is a balance between risk, feasibility and necessity. Finding a balance is difficult," Abiteboul tells various media, including Crash.net. "The biggest challenge will probably be to apply the measures within the team."

Do not participate in race

Despite the measures taken, there is still a risk of contamination of the coronavirus. In case of an infection within the team, the consequences will be significant, according to Abiteboul. "There is, of course, a chance that one person could become infected. That would mean that the whole team would be shut down until all the test results have been received. That test can take 24 hours before the results are in". Abiteboul thinks that's where the biggest risk lies.

"Suppose somebody gets tested positive Saturday morning, then you can't qualify and you can't race. We still have to discuss how we are going to finalize everything around the measures, although I understand that there is already a lot of work in the measures by the FIA and the teams", Abiteboul concludes.
