While Ferrari chose to test at the Mugello circuit last week, AlphaTauri opted for another Italian circuit that may still appear on the Formula 1 calendar this season. The comments of the drivers were also similar afterwards.

Sebastian Vettel spoke earlier in praise of Mugello and hopes that the circuit will appear on the calendar for the first time. Daniil Kvyat said more or less the same about Imola, although Formula 1 is certainly not new there.

“Being at Imola felt great! I’ve known the track for a while now because I did one of my first tests here for Formula BMW in 2010 and raced in Formula Renault Alps in 2012 and so it was lovely to finally return for a filming day with the team. Imola is a track which is really nice to drive with lots of fast corners and I think it deserves to return to the F1 calendar."

Imola also chosen for practical reasons

The fact that Ferrari and AlphaTauri have tested on these circuits could be interpreted as a sign that they indeed have a good chance of appearing on the 2020 calendar. Certainly Imola is also very practical for AlphaTauri, because their factory is almost around the corner.

It gave Kvyat, who doesn't do much sim racing, at least the chance to get sharp again. "It was a special feeling being back in the car after such a long break and I really enjoyed it. The long break made driving an F1 car again feel even more exciting than usual.”
