As a result of the corona crisis, the new technical regulation that was originally intended to take effect from 2021 has been postponed by one year. Ross Brawn, who is largely responsible for these regulations, believes that this extra time should be used to improve those regulations.

"We can look at future regulations based on what we've learned," says the 65-year-old Briton to Motorsport-Total.com. "We have one extra year of time and that gives us the opportunity to evaluate and possibly adapt in areas indicated by the teams".

We don't have to expect really big changes, but according to Brawn it's important that the goals of the new regulations are actually achieved. Then, according to him, it can't hurt to take a little more time for this.

Postpone the deadline, like last year?

"It would be stupid to sit on your hands for twelve months now, so why don't we take advantage of the extra time now that none of the teams are working on the new cars. In some areas the wording is still a bit open, so we can still make improvements on the details".

It is actually the intention that the regulations must be completed and signed before June 30th, 2022. That is the same deadline that was used last year when these regulations would still apply before 2021. That deadline was also postponed until October.
