There was a small uproar this week when Lewis Hamilton attacked Red Bull Racing advisor Helmut Marko for an alleged statement by the Austrian. Afterwards it turned out that Marko hadn't said it that way and Hamilton had to take back his words.

In a fraught political climate when it comes to racism, emotions can sometimes run high. In Formula 1, the discussion about racism was initiated by Lewis Hamilton, who is very active on social media.

This was also the case after he had read a message in which Helmut Marko apparently blamed him for dealing with 'peripheral issues' and that this would possibly play tricks on him in the battle with Max Verstappen. Hamilton placed a reproachful message on Instagram in which he addressed Marko personally.

Marko creates clarity

When it turned out that the statements of the Austrian were a bit more nuanced than how the news item that Hamilton read this presented, the Mercedes driver removed his message again. In the meantime the two have come to an agreement and Marko explains again clearly to the Austrian newspaper Oe24 what he said exactly.

"Lewis has responded to 'fake news' there. I didn't mention any driver by name. The only thing I said is that it might be an advantage for Verstappen that he focuses on Formula 1".
