Mayor Florence: "Second Italian GP practically certain"

The current plan of the eight planned races this season is still being tinkered with by the FIA. The emphasis is mainly on further expansion of the season. Hoping to organize at least fifteen GP's this year it seems almost certain that there will be a second Grand Prix in Italy. At least, that's what the mayor of Florence, Dario Nardella, thinks.

On the last slot of the current calendar the Italian Grand Prix takes place on the traditional Monza circuit. In the search for a logical and safe itinerary and organizing as many GP's as possible, a race on the circuit of Mugello in Florence seems a good option.

Opposite the Italian Sky Sports, the mayor of Florence says: "A second F1 GP in Italy is practically certain, so we can finally compete for a spot on the calendar. It would be historic, both for international motorsport and for Florence itself".

Mugello instead of Imola

In Italy you can find many challenging race tracks. Motorsport is extremely popular in the country, partly due to the successes and long history of Ferrari. So soon there was some friction about which circuit should organize the second Italian GP. Even Monza could go for a second run the week after. After all, that also happens at the Red Bull Ring and Silverstone.

It was said about Imola that the track would be too narrow to hold an F1 race. The mayor of Florence therefore says that nothing is certain yet, but that he has high hopes: "We will keep our fingers crossed. Never have we been so close to the possibility of organising an F1 race in Florence on the Mugello circuit".
