Racing Point has to wait a year longer for the new 'Aston Martin' factory

The current Racing Point has a factory next to the Silverstone circuit, but the factory itself is a bit on the tight side. However, the renovations will have to be postponed for another year.

One year postponement

Since the takeover of Lawrence Stroll in 2018, the race stable, formerly known as Force India, suddenly has more money at its disposal. Stroll is eager to invest and the expansion of the factory falls under those investments. Due to the coronavirus, however, the construction is delayed.

''The factory will be built, but because of the coronavirus we haven't been able to do much. We want to be competitive and the current factory has been there since 1990. Then of course you also have to deal with the moment you want to move in and for us August is the best month to move in. August 2022 is the new guideline'', says Otmar Szafnauer.

So the team has to wait a year for a new renovation, but that also offers opportunities. ''We now have extra months to see what offers are available for the construction to take place. If you can provide even more detailed plans, it will also make a difference in estimating the costs,'' says Szafnauer to Motorsport.com.

The coronavirus, however, offers opportunities as well as difficulties for the team. ''We don't really know yet how that will go within the factory in terms of social distancing and how we do it on the track. We need to take a good look at that, because if there's never going to be a vaccine there's going to have to be a solution'', concludes the team boss of the Aston Martin factory team in 2021.
