FIA and Ferrari announced a new collaboration on Thursday morning. Ferrari will help the FIA get the 'Girls on Track-Rising Stars' programme off the ground and will accompany women between the ages of 12 and 15.

Women in Formula 1

The Ferrari Driver Academy has made a four-year deal with the FIA, in which it has set the goal of having two female drivers from the program debut in the FIA Formula 4 Championship in 2022. It is all part of the program to help women in racing.

"FIA Girls on Track - Rising Stars is another huge step forward to find, develop and support young female drivers," said Michèle Mouton, president of the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission. "Working with Ferrari, our first partner in the programme, is fantastic and a real recognition of the progress we continue to make after 10 years of work by our Commission. It is a multi-year agreement which we hope will lead to two winning drivers becoming Ferrari's very first female drivers. That is a very special idea and would be a historic moment for our Commission for Women in Motorsport''.

Ferrari proud to participate

"We are very happy to be working with the FIA in this innovative Girls on Track - Rising Stars program. We strongly believe in the value of helping young people develop in motorsport. The FDA has been active for more than a decade now and not only selects the best drivers but also works on their cultural, technical and ethical training," adds Mattia Binotto on behalf of Ferrari.

''With this in mind, we felt we had to make a further effort to expand our field of activity to include young women who want to practice motor sport. Although there is no real obstacle to their participation, we are aware that it is more difficult for women to make progress in this area. That's why we've responded enthusiastically to the FIA initiative and think we can help introduce even more young women to this fantastic sport. Who knows, maybe one day we'll see another woman taking part in a Formula 1 World Championship race for the first time since 1976," concludes Binotto.
