If we may believe former Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone, the golden days of F1 are over. He expects that a number of drivers with sky-high salaries will have to sacrifice a lot in the future.

Savings

The corona virus is a difficult stumbling block for the automotive industry and it will also affect F1, Ecclestone thinks. The Brit believes Lewis Hamilton will have to sacrifice a lot on his salary when he signs a new contract.

"Hamilton will never earn 50 million euros a year again. All drivers will have to make substantial cutbacks. The golden days are over", said Ecclestone to the Swiss newspaper Blick.

Poker

Ecclestone therefore advised Hamilton not to 'play poker' when he had to negotiate his contract extension with Mercedes. This is because the world situation is difficult and there are very 'tasty' drivers on the market, such as Sebastian Vettel.
