In preparation for the Austrian Grand Prix in a month's time, a number of teams decided to have a private test session. Earlier this week it was announced that Mercedes will appear on the tarmac in Silverstone next Tuesday and Wednesday. Ferrari will do the same in Fiorano somewhere in the coming weeks.

It has been three and a half months since the Formula 1 teams have been on the circuit with their cars for the last time. That's an eternity when you consider that the winter break usually only lasts two and a half months.

It is therefore very important for them to make some more kilometres before the new start of the season and to keep the team warm. Both Mercedes and Ferrari are therefore planning a closed test session. Not so much to tinker with the car before 2020, because it shouldn't be used during these days. Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas will therefore drive the 2018 car.

It is not yet known which car Ferrari will drive on the asphalt in Fiorano and when this will take place, but Mattia Binotto confirmed the following to La Stampa. "I talked to Leclerc for the last time last Thursday and we spoke about the test he will do for Austria at Fiorano."
