A possible double header at the British Grand Prix at the end of July is another step closer now that the British government has announced that all sporting events in the United Kingdom may be resumed from June 1st.

Whether the British Grand Prix will be able to go ahead with this will depend on whether Formula 1 will get an exception to the quarantine measures. These mean that everyone who enters the country first has to spend a fortnight in isolation. The words from culture secretary, Oliver Dowden, are in any case encouraging.

"I'm pleased to announce today that the government has published guidelines that will allow the sporting events to resume behind closed doors from Monday at the earliest, but only if it's safe."

Grand Prix live on open channel

"It's up to each individual sport to resume the competition; they know their sport best, but football, tennis, horse racing, Formula 1, cricket, golf, rugby, snooker and others are all ready to return to our screens."

That last sentence is important, because it could be an indication that the Grand Prix of Great Britain is going to continue after all. According to RaceFans, the British government wants to do everything possible to see both races at Silverstone live on the open channel. Channel 4 currently only has the rights for one race per season.
