It has been hanging in the air for a while, but the Grand Prix of the Netherlands has officially announced that there will be no Grand Prix in 2020. In spite of beautiful renovations on the circuit, there will be no Formula 1 to be admired in the Dutch dunes in 2020.

The Dutch Grand Prix was supposed to have taken place on Sunday, May 3, but the coronavirus changed the whole Formula 1 calendar. This postponement will result in a new calendar that will most likely kick off in Austria as of July, but it is now clear that the Dutch Grand Prix will not be on the calendar.

Lammers can wait

The biggest point of the Dutch Grand Prix was of course the sea of Orange, but because of the coronavirus and the measures in the Netherlands it is impossible to achieve that in the short term. The organization of the Dutch Grand Prix is therefore aiming for a race in 2021, when the storm has subsided somewhat.

''We would like to celebrate the return of the Dutch Grand Prix on the Formula 1 calendar with all racing fans of the Netherlands. However, at the moment this is not possible in Zandvoort and so we ask our fans to be patient. I have been looking forward to it for 35 years, so that one year I can wait'', Jan Lammers says in a reaction.
