The United States Grand Prix is still on the current calendar for 2020, but the event is becoming more and more questionable. According to Austin's medical expert, major events are the last priority.

The GP of the United States is scheduled for October 25th at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. Since the outbreak of the coronavirus only all events have been cancelled on the circuit and it does not seem that this will change soon.

They are currently at Stage 3 in Austin, allowing gatherings with a maximum of ten people in a low-risk group. Before large events can take place again in the city, the crisis has to be brought back to Stage 1.

Grand Prix is last priority

According to Dr. Mark Escott, the medical expert who deals with the public health of the city, these meetings are not a priority at all. "Big events are the first things we've cancelled and will be the last things we're going to give the green light again, because of the risk of exposing large groups of people to each other," says Escott to the Austin Statesman.

"We're working on a plan to predict what we think is reasonable, but until the end of December we have no indication when we will be able to organise major events again"

Still, there is a bit of hope on the horizon according to Escott. If there is a big improvement in the number of COVID-19 cases, the situation may change. "I think that's a good reason to work hard on social distancing and leave people who are sick at home, so we can get a grip on the situation again".
