Formula 1 aims to start the season on July 5th during the Austrian Grand Prix. However, the coronavirus is still lurking and so all precautions are necessary to prevent infections.

According to FIA chief physician Gerard Saillant, a Grand Prix could now even be held if people tested positive. The example is of course the German Bundesliga, where employees and players could not attend the race after a negative test, but the rest of the competition could continue.

Ten infections

In F1 this will also be maintained, so that not one contamination will result in a cancelled start. ''The situation between Melbourne and now has changed enormously. We now have much more knowledge of the virus and therefore we can already anticipate. Even if we have ten positive tests, we could still start,'' says Saillant to Sky Sports.

However, it will depend on a case by case basis, because Saillant also states that a sporting choice can be made if those infections all affect drivers. ''When it comes to the sporting consequences, it may be a different story. That's why we have to think carefully beforehand about what the boundary is'', concludes Saillant.
