Singapore Grand Prix will not be held behind closed doors

The Grands Prix of Austria, Great Britain, Hungary and Belgium will be organised without an audience in 2020, but in Singapore that scenario does not seem likely. According to the promoters, it is not feasible not to admit fans.

The promoter of the Singaporean Grand Prix told The Straits Times on Saturday that 'it's not feasible to keep the race behind closed doors' if the race is held on September 20 at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. This is probably not possible from a cost point of view.

Health and wellbeing remains top priority

According to a spokesperson, the calendar for next season is in its final phase. "We have had open discussions with F1, the Singapore government and our stakeholders over the past period to assess the various possibilities. The highest priority remains the welfare and safety of our fans, volunteers and all Singaporeans".

The construction of the street circuit also takes time, so it should not take too long before there is clarity. The infrastructure has yet to be fully set up, such as placing grandstands and lighting for the night race. Permission has to be granted first and at least not before June 2 from the government. Normally preparations are made in a period of three months, but that process will probably have to be accelerated now.
