This year many Grands Prix have been postponed or cancelled. Like the Spanish Grand Prix, which was originally on the calendar this weekend. Although the situation around the coronavirus in Spain is relatively bad, the circuit in Barcelona has good hopes for a Grand Prix in 2020. The general manager of Circuit de Catalunya, Joan Fontserè, hopes that a race without an audience can be organized in Spain.

"If you look at this year, I think we can be positive about the chance that a Grand Prix without an audience can be organized here in the summer," Fontserè informs Motorsportweek.com. "We are currently in talks with Liberty Media and I hope we can add the Spanish Grand Prix to the first number of Grands Prix of this season, at the other European races.

No races with public all year round

Fontserè was cautious when asked if there will be a Grand Prix this year, where the public is allowed to be present. "I don't think we can consider having a Grand Prix for fans in 2020". So if there would be a Grand Prix on the circuit of Catalunya, it would probably be held without an audience.

MotoGP is also still in the waiting room for a race in Barcelona. "Our philosophy now is to keep the sport alive, Formula 1 or MotoGP. So if they think we can help to create a more representative championship, then of course we will help", concludes Fontserè.
