The coronavirus affects the whole world. Almost everything is at a standstill and everyone has to lay down their work. Formula 1 has also been hit hard by the corona crisis. Mark Webber, former Red Bull Racing driver, even thinks that Formula 1 is one of the sports that has been hit hardest by the stagnation of the competition.

"Formula 1 is probably the sport in which everyone has to cross national borders most often and in which they have to travel the most," Webber tells Australian 9Now. "It's not just that the teams have to come from Italy or the United Kingdom. There are people involved in the sport from all over the world."

The right decision has been made

Nevertheless, Webber believes in a start of the season in July. "I think that if people survive this situation and can find a solution in a professional way with the right tests, Formula 1 will return as soon as possible, hopefully in July". Webber also had something to say about the decisions of the Australian Grand Prix, which was cancelled a few hours before the first free practice.

"Everyone tried what they could do. There were some unfortunate positive tests in the paddock. Of course that's not nice at that point, since the fans were already on the track. It was very difficult to keep quiet. The media was on top of it". Although Webber sees that there was a lot of discussion about the decision, he is happy that the decision was made. "They did what they could do. We really needed Chase Carey to stand firm and cancel the whole weekend, together with the organizers", said the Australian driver.
