Ecclestone doesn't worry: "At my age, one is not afraid of death"

At 89 years of age, Bernie Ecclestone is one of the at-risk groups for the coronavirus. Still, the ex-Formula 1 boss is anything but worried about the situation, despite the fact that the virus is rapidly spreading in Brazil, where he resides. He was planning to take a fortnight's holiday on his farm in Brazil at the beginning of March, where he has been stuck since then because of the pandemic.

He's fine

"The world has changed for us too, but we are still in a bearable situation here with our 30 employees. But I can hardly watch the endless TV shows about corona anymore," the Brit says to Blick. Meanwhile, Ecclestone knows how to take care of his animals as he has cattle, chickens and horses on his farm.

"Twice a day I go from the chicken coop back to the farm with about twenty eggs", he also says to have enough food: "We can order anything. Then it is dropped off in front of the closed gates and we can go and get it by car. Luckily all the employees are well here too".

Not afraid of death

Any chance of infection could be fatal to Ecclestone, but he's not afraid of death. So the Brit says, "At my age, one is no longer afraid of death. You're just grateful and looking forward to every phone call. Fortunately, Fabiana (his wife) has made great progress in backgammon, so the days are getting shorter".

"All that matters is that Fabiana and the baby are okay. The birth of my first son will be another highlight of my life," the Brit makes his priorities very clear.
