In times of corona, Formula 1 deals with the calendar and the budget cap. Jan Lammers understands that cost savings are being considered and agrees with Christian Horner's idea.

Where team boss Haas Geunther Steiner disagreed with Horner to give the smaller teams the availability of complete customer cars of the richer teams, Lammers agrees with the idea. The sports director of the Dutch GP responds to Motorsport.com.

"It is certainly a solution but perhaps an interim solution. Then the larger teams would have to produce almost eight cars instead of the two they are doing now. That should be possible because not everyone has to reinvent the wheel and this is already happening partly at Racing Point, Haas and Williams. I've come to know Horner as a capable man so if he thinks it's a good idea it could work".

Budget cap and sports regulations

Reducing total costs is also addressed. It is an important topic now that the corona crisis is hitting many teams in their wallets. Lammers understands the discussion: "They are incredible budgets, between 100 and 400 million. You can wonder whether that's still immoral, even though that money is ultimately spent on the development of street cars". According to Lammers, the normal car still benefits from the developments in Formula 1.

For the smaller teams, however, it is a lot more difficult: "They are already happy if they get a hundred million from somewhere. If you want a level playing field you have to think about cost savings, although that remains difficult to manage". For example, the costs for the development of the engine are not within the budget limit.
According to Lammers, things can also be different and he concludes: "I think you can do a lot more with the sporting regulations by making it less complex".
