For a long time Red Bull Racing was against a lowering of a budget ceiling in Formula 1, but in the meantime the Austrian race stable seems to have changed a bit. This can be deduced from the words of Christian Horner, collected by Motorsport.com. The British team boss emphasises that fans want a driver to make a difference on the track and that it's not the chassis or the engine that should determine the ranking.

From 2021 onwards, a maximum amount of USD 145 million per year will probably be used, and in the years that follow this will be further reduced. Among other things, it should reduce the gap between the top teams and smaller teams.

Horner understands what fans want

"I believe that all people who follow a sport with passion do so because they want to have fun and be entertained. I don't think that the number of cylinders in a block or the exact pressure of the tyres are the parts on which fans follow Formula 1", Horner says. "In the end, I think fans want to see exciting races with lots of wheel-to-wheel battles.

The 46-year-old chief of Max Verstappen and Alexander Albon continues his story: "They want the drivers to be the heroes, they want the engine or chassis to make the difference. People want to see sports and watch races when the final outcome is unknown," he concludes.
