Formula E cuts the knot: "After September, we won't be racing anymore''

Formula 1 is busy making something of the F1 season of 2020, but Formula E seems to opt for a different approach. Indeed, the electric class is willing to sacrifice the current season for the first official season of the FIA.

Formula E has been a stand-alone competition in recent years that has not yet been recognized by the FIA, but that will change for the 2020-2021. Then the championship will be officially recognized by the FIA and that is special for the organization. It is therefore not surprising that the current championship is less important.

End of season for Formula E?

Since Formula E always starts at the end of a calendar year, the sport already had five races. Since then, there hasn't been a race anymore and even more so, there is no race on the official calendar. The last races would be held in New York and London in July, but those races have already been cancelled.

Formula E does not give up yet, but does not want to race at all costs. ''If we can't race in August or September, we won't race this season. We will sacrifice this season that to start in December with the first official championship of the FIA'', says co-founder Alejandro Agag opposite Motorsport.com.

Double races

''It's very unlikely that we won't be racing anymore, but these are exceptional times. I think we can have two to four more races, but those will be double races and not after September'', concludes Agag who focuses mainly on existing circuits or fixed locations where not much needs to be done.

The CEO of Formula 1 is also busy with the new plans. ''We want to start at the end of July or the beginning of August and we are doing everything we can to finish this season," says Jamie Reigle, where Agag still knows to mention that it is also one of the options to merge events with the DTM.
