F1: Wolff and Hamilton nominated for title most influential person ever

The official channels of Formula 1 are about to start with something new. The help of fans will be sought to find out who is the most influential person in the history of the pinnacle of motorsport. Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton also among the nominees, according to Sunday's published shortlist.

Formula 1 has set up a knockout tournament in order to come to a 'winner', so that in the end one person will remain. The shortlist contains 32 names that all belong to the biggest F1 personalities. They are divided into four categories: drivers, team bosses, innovators and game changers.

On its own website, Formula 1 writes: "Who is the person who has had the greatest influence on F1? Is it a technical innovator who has changed everything with a brilliant technique, a driver who has inspired legions of fans to follow the sport, a team boss who has provided a harvest of young drivers or perhaps a pioneer in the field of safety?"

Who are the other contenders?

Hamilton logically belongs to the category of drivers. He has to tolerate competition from Max Verstappen, Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher, Sir Jackie Stewart, Niki Lauda, Jack Brabham and Juan Manuel Fangio. Red Bull Racing top men Helmut Marko, Christian Horner and Adrian Newey have also been nominated. Famous names such as Andy Cowell, Ross Brawn, Dietrich Mateschitz and Jean Todt also stand a chance of winning this title. View the complete list of nominees here.
