Since the outbreak of the coronavirus, Max Verstappen has been unable to get away from his racing seat. The Dutchman also competes in the Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup, but has not yet been able to achieve much success in the first round of the competition.

This weekend it will be quiet at Circuit Zandvoort, but the track was used in the digital world. The circuit was the stage for the first round of the Porsche Esports Supercup, a competition that will be held over twelve laps by forty simracers. Among those simracers is also Max Verstappen, who probably hoped for a completely different weekend in Zandvoort.

The event starts with a sprint race, where the results are used as the starting grid for the main race. In the fifteen minute race, Verstappen only remains stuck at 22nd position for a long time. Just before the end he manages to move up one more place, but it means a starting spot full in the middle for the Dutchman in the race. Scotsman Graham Carroll can call himself the winner of the first race.

Strong first lap

In the main race it goes a lot better for Verstappen. The driver of Red Bull Racing is able to overtake seven opponents in the first lap and a little later he can also take over P13 from Thibault Cazaubon. In the end Verstappen manages to reach eleventh position, but does make contact with a competitor. Still, it is good enough to get the first points. Polesitter Carroll becomes second, with teammate Sebastian Job on P1.

Next Saturday the competition continues. The second round of the Porsche Esports Supercup will be held at the Circuit de Catalunya, at a quarter to three GMT. The race will be live on the YouTube channel of Porsche.
