Formula E is inextricably linked to 'the city'. The electric counterpart of Formula 1 may not be able to race in cities for up to three years because of the corona virus. As a result, an important segment of the sport seems to be lost. Founder and president of the sport Alejandro Agag gives an explanation.

Since 2014, the creation of the electric class in motor sports, the FE prefers cities to race in. Due to COVID-19, it seems that the FE is forced to move to permanent circuits and organize races without an audience.

According to Agag, the sport may be able to turn the competition around in this way for up to three years. With this plan, the sport thinks along with residents of cities who would feel uncomfortable organizing a large-scale event in their neighbourhood.

Safety first

To Autosport, the chairman states: "The fact is that we have to put the welfare of people and residents of all the cities we visit first. As long as we cannot race in complete safety, we will not. But as soon as we can, we will race."

"So even if the sport's DNA doesn't change for safety reasons, everyone understands we have to make an exception. This exception can be short, but it can also just take six months or three years. Longer than three years, however, I don't see happening."
