Belgian GP criticizes Bild after 'wrong' F1 calendar: "Are not well informed"

The Spa-Francorchamps circuit has not yet given up hope of organising a Grand Prix in Formula 1. According to the general manager of the circuit, it is still quite possible that the pinnacle of motorsport will travel to Belgium in 2020, contrary to earlier reports from the German medium Bild.

Last week Bild came up with a seemingly good calendar, with no room for a GP-weekend at Spa-Fancorchamps. However, according to Vanessa Maes there is still hope that the Formula 1 circus will crash in the Ardennes. "Bild didn't get herself well informed", counters the top woman in conversation with Belga.

GP Belgium still possible at the end of August

The Belgian Grand Prix is now scheduled between 28 and 30 August, but a ban on major events until 1 September seemed to throw a spanner in the works. According to Maes, this is not immediately necessary, as the measure applies to sports events without spectators. The current date could then, according to Maes, always be met.

In any case, Spa-Francorchamps has a request to the government. "We are still waiting for the green light from the government for a Grand Prix on August the 30th  behind closed doors", the press agency quotes her. A decision has not yet been made and no pressure is being exerted from FOM. "We haven't been given a deadline to make a final choice. They realise that every organiser is dependent on their government."

F1 team leaks possible calendar

The Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws has, according to its own words, managed to seize a 'project calendar'. According to them, this calendar comes from 'a reliable source, a team from Formula 1'. Nineteen Grands Prix are planned on that calendar for 2020, with the weekends in the Netherlands, Monaco, Australia, France and Singapore disappearing. However, the question is whether this umpteenth version of a Formula 1 calendar is realistic, since according to this project calendar there will be a total of five consecutive weekends in September/early October. Moreover, the Belgian Grand Prix is scheduled to take place here on 13 September.
