Until September it is not allowed to organize large-scale events in Belgium. For sports events, a final decision has not yet been taken, as it would be feasible to take measures in an alternative way in several cases. In this context, the Belgian Grand Prix has not yet been officially postponed or cancelled.

Nothing is certain yet

The boss of the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, Vanessa Maes, has indicated that the Belgian Grand Prix has not been cancelled. First of all a final decision has to be made by the government regarding sports events and as long as that is open, there is a possibility for a Grand Prix at the circuit.

To avoid any confusion or ambiguity Maes has indicated to the La Derniere Heure newspaper that they are still in full discussion. "We are still in talks with FOM and the government to organize a race behind closed doors."

Maes' statement does indicate that a normal race - i.e. with an audience - will most likely not be in it. Unless the race is postponed until after September. If it will take place on August 30th, then behind closed doors is more or less an obligation.
