Priestley: ''It's not as if this has never happened in Formula 1''

Ferrari and Red Bull Racing seem to get in the way of the other Formula 1 teams. However, with an idea to sell their own cars to the smaller teams and holding back the lower budget cap, they don't like it.

Where the smaller teams want an equal field of participants and want to enter an even lower budget cap, Ferrari and Red Bull have other plans. They don't want to cut their budgets any further and prefer to sell their car to the smaller teams at the end of each year.

Buying a car

Marc Priestley, who used to be an advocate after all, sees something in the proposal of the top teams in these times. ''I used to think this was ridiculous, but now I think it could work. Now you have to survive as a sport and if this is the way to do it and still have a competitive sport, then I would do it'', says Priestley in his latest video.

''The world has changed and when we start again you want a competitive field. It is not as if this has never happened in Formula 1, so those who say that this is not part of F1 are wrong''. However, the question is whether the other teams want this, because they hope to build their own car.

Ferrari's right of veto

The budget cap is part two of the current discussions and the question is whether Ferrari can use the right of veto with a new budget cap? ''Yes, they still have that power and even used it when a budget cap was introduced in 2009. However, then Ferrari lost it in court'', says the former McLaren mechanic, who knows what Ferrari can use the right for.

''According to a lawyer of the FIA, Ferrari can only use the right of veto if it has to make adjustments to the car. It was not an official statement, but if so the budget cap is not covered. They don't have to modify the car all of a sudden'', concludes Priestley.
