Toto Wolff caused a stir by recently investing in Aston Martin. Mercedes' team boss bought himself into the British car brand for several million dollars and this caused rumours of a possible move to the Lawrence Stroll team to pick up again. Wolff explained last weekend what exactly is behind the investment.

Wolff's contract with Mercedes expires next season and Racing Point will start next year in Formula 1 as the Aston Martin F1 Team. Wolff is a good friend of Stroll sr. so a switch wouldn't be crazy. Add to that the fact that Wolff is investing heavily in Aston Martin and the alarm bells are ringing.

Wolff calls it a 'personal investment'

According to the Austrian top man, his investment has nothing to do with Formula 1 related issues. "The shares are now in his hole and Aston Martin's new product is great. With the DBX an SUV will soon be released, a real casual car", he briefly introduces Österreich. "It is a personal financial investment in a car manufacturer that has nothing to do with Formula 1. After the coronavirus, new life will return and people will start buying cars again".

Asked how the deal fits in with his work at Mercedes as team leader, he answers: "Very good. We will provide the new Aston Martin F1 Team with our engines, and we will do the same in Aston Martin's regular cars, because they too drive with Mercedes power sources. Daimler (the parent company of Mercedes, ed.) also has a five percent stake in Aston Martin".

Hamilton and Wolff not on the way to Aston Martin

There are rumours on the internet that Wolff and Lewis Hamilton will not renew their contracts with Mercedes, leaving them free to go where they want in 2021 and that this will be accompanied by a transfer to Aston Martin. Wolff doesn't want to know anything about this: "The only thing I want to say about this is a short statement à la Niki Lauda: it's total nonsense!"
