Today it was announced that if there will be a Grand Prix at Silverstone, it will be a quiet race, because there will be no fans. Stuart Pringle, Managing Director of the circuit, has reacted to the developments around the British circuit. He told Sky Sports what the circuit has weighed up, and what the possibilities are for a Grand Prix.

Racing without an audience no guarantee on Grand Prix

"We are currently actively negotiating with F1 and FOM. In the end we all have the same goal, namely to start the season. Of course it is a great pity that we had to announce that a race with an audience has become impossible. We have waited as long as possible with the decision, because a lot could still change".

Pringle himself indicates that the decision to race without an audience is no guarantee for a Grand Prix at Silverstone. "Racing behind closed doors is completely dependent on the government's decision. However, these are good signs, now that the ministry that deals with sports has indicated to discuss a possible solution. So we will work well with all parties involved to make a British Grand Prix behind closed doors possible".

70th Anniversary Formula 1

This year Formula 1 celebrates its 70th anniversary. The first F1 Grand Prix was held at SIlverstone, and according to Pringle it is therefore important that this year's Grand Prix is also held at Silverstone. "Of course we want to organise a Grand Prix. It is the 70th anniversary of Formula 1, which all started at Silverstone. The challenge is that we now have to work out all logistic, financial and sporting problems".

"That's what we're working on now. It's important that we understand the magnitude of the problem. We are very positive that we can help F1 with a good season. More than 1 race at Silverstone is also one of those possibilities", Pringle concludes.
