Because of the coronavirus, Formula 1 has come to a complete standstill and the question is again how it will work out. Chase Carey presents a new plan for the season, but Formula 1 will still be what it used to be.

Budget cap of $50 million

Jean Todt has his doubts about that. The top executive of the FIA met Michael Schmidt, author at the German Auto, Motor und Sport, and said that the future of Formula 1 could look very different after the crisis, if a new budget cap were to shape the sport.

''In the unlikely event that the season doesn't start, you have to see what the future of Formula 1 looks like. In the worst case, the current F1 is no longer feasible and you will be racing with a budget cap of $50 million without exceptions. That's nothing like Formula 1 anymore and better be called Super Formula 2'', says Todt.

Will the top teams get the power?

With that in mind Schmidt will also start to work and he sees a big advantage in it. ''Of course the top teams want to sell their car, but that only gives them more power and then they can spend more money. I would start all over again and start with the survivors of this crisis'', says the reporter.

''If you let the top teams sell cars, then they get all the power and there's really nothing to start against. With 50 million dollars as a budget cap you can each have your own car built and the sport becomes much more interesting. With three or four cars from the top teams you would only go further down the valley and the top teams would get their way," concludes Schmidt.
