It looks like the Formula 1 season might start on July 5th, at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. According to Christian Horner, everything is ready to go.

Everyone in Melbourne was looking forward to the start of an exciting season, but last minute those plans were cancelled due to the coronavirus. In the meantime, Liberty Media, the FIA and the teams have been busy putting together a new calendar and finding a starting date. It seems to be found now.

According to Helmut Marko the first race can start on July 5 at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, something Christian Horner confirms. "We are hopeful and it would be a great start for the championship if it is considered safe enough. I know Red Bull is doing everything in their power to facilitate the race," Red Bull Racing's team boss said in an interview with The Sun.

"If the medical authorities and the government agree, it will also give us a starting point that others can then follow. Of course, a lot of research has been done to keep a race without fans and a minimum number of people allowed to be present". According to Horner, for example, teams of around eighty people are allowed at testing.

Matter of turning a knob

Despite the precautionary measures, the start date of 5 July is not fixed. "The global crisis is bigger than our sport, but you have to put a dot somewhere and say, this is our starting point. If things change and get worse, it can always be changed. At the moment, it's a positive goal for the sport."

"Everything's ready and we're ready to go. It's just a matter of flipping a switch. It's a facility focused purely on Formula 1." According to the team boss, this is also the reason why the Red Bull Ring can react faster than any other circuit in the world. It remains to be seen whether we can really enjoy July again.
